In Meatra looks as simple as other people, yet a conclusion of his achievements would make him an extraordinary person among others. Born into a middle class family in crowded Phnom Penh, he had undergone several life challenges before being able to pin himself on a relatively highest profile position within business society. At early ages, Meatra would set aside a good deal of time for learning, while also enjoying sports and social activities with friends. He liked standing on top and would always make the first moves among his friends – things like leading sports teams and classes. He made several notable accomplishments while at school – achieving many academic outstanding performances, one of which was a student of Mathematics excellence.
Good fortune seems to go not far from ones who always care for the final results, and this has been proven by the story of In Meatra, who now becomes Director General of one of the prominent insurance companies in Cambodia – and the company is known in short by many as “Cambodian Life”.
To Meatra, learning gives one an invaluable capital of life, and he suggests that young generations do their best to acquire knowledge and skills to brighten their future. "In theory, it's never late for learning," said Meatra. "In reality, however, it's always late because it's hard for you to go back to learn basic things when you reach maturity and get many things to do other than learning."
Early Life
In Meatra was born into a middle class family in Phnom Penh in 1975. He graduated from Toul Tom Pong High School in 1991 and was awarded a governmental scholarship to Royal University of Economics and Laws in 1992.
Tertiary Life
In 1997, In Meatra was then awarded a first bachelor degree in Economic Sciences from Royal University of Economics and Laws. In 2004, Meatra gained a master degree in Banking and Finance from University of Cambodia. In 2012, he gained the latest master degree in General Management from Charles Sturt University of Australia.
Occupations
During 1994-1997, Meatra worked as a business coordinator with a Malaysian business, receiving a gross monthly salary of $150. He also worked part-time as an independent car sales agent for a Korean company. In 1998, he was appointed as Financial Controller at the Department of Budgeterization and Financial Affairs of Ministry of Economy and Finance and worked there until 2002. From 2002 to 2006, he was a deputy head at the Financial Market Division of Financial Industry Department. From 2007 to 2011, he was Head of Insurance Division of FID until Cambodian Life Insurance Plc. was established in 2011, and there he has been appointed as Director General of the company.
In 2013, he becomes a member of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and Board Advisor to Cambodia Investors Club (CIC).
Notable Achievements
With a single-parent of only mother, self-driven In Meatra performed well in his school life, bearing the name of Mathematics excellence during high school. At early childhood, Meatra was studious. At night, he would demonstrate Mathematics on his bed under a dim flame of oil-lamp to prepare for the upcoming exams. During university life, unhealthy economy of his family forced him to spare some time for part-time jobs to support his education.
Later in 2002, Meatra was one among other candidates at Ministry of Economy and Finance to be admitted a scholarship to study English Language Proficiency in Singapore. In 2004, he was also the only candidate to be given a scholarship to study Risks Management in Banking & Finance in Stockholm Sweden.
Further, Meatra achieved a high proficiency of English, gaining a 6-Scored of IELTS from CfBT, and that has given him many chances to gain both educational and occupational privileges within the public sector.
Going through a number of hardship and obstacles in early life, In Meatra today has taken over the position of Director General of the 51%-state-owned life insurance company known as Cambodia Life Insurance Company Plc.
Business Strategies and Future Commitments
Cambodia Life Insurance Company is a 51%-state-owned joint venture with four foreign companies, and it is one of the notable life insurance companies in Cambodia. In 2011, the government initiated the project of launching Cambodia Life Insurance Company Plc., and In Meatra, who is now Director General, was responsible for the establishment of the whole company. By then, the company had only the name with only some pieces of paper. Within four months, Meatra has established the company, starting from scratch to a tangible shape of Cambodia Life Insurance Company Plc. First, he ran documents and legal permits. Then, he teamed up with qualified people to make the company shapeable. Meatra has jointly created all the insurance products for the company to suit the need of Cambodian consumers. Such products are term-life plan, whole-life plan, and mortgage plan, just to name a few.
In Meatra has a lot more than just to establish the company. He has set up strategies to grow company’s revenues. Some of the strategic applications are public relations campaigns (PR) and direct selling strategies. First, Meatra has applied PR strategies to publicize the products of the company. TV commercials have been aired through CNC News channel and are prepared for running on Hang Meas HDTV for branding of the name of the company. Meatra has also earned some media coverage such as on a series of special talks on CNC Business Talk and additional mentions of the company and its products on many other media channels to raise product awareness and publicity. Second, he set up an in-house sales team and direct sales agents who make referrals of the products for commission-based pays.
For future commitment, Meatra determines to make Cambodia Life a leading insurance company in Cambodia, despite knowing that one of his foreign competitors has already made several steps ahead. To him, strong leadership, qualified work teams with shared vision, and innovative solutions to ensuring consumer needs and satisfaction are keys to goal achievement of the company.
