Many people flock to the market, hoping to get their products or services accepted by consumers. Some fail, while others succeed. And there are always questions on how to stay well in business in the mind of those people who fail and would still continue some years to pursue their dream of business success. For those who’re looking for the ways out, there’re always some simple suggested strategies.
There’s absolutely no easy way for that success, but “having integrity in what you’re doing will always bring you a trust contributing to your success,” said Phillip Fong, co-founder & managing director at JM Asia Cambodia.
There’s some ways to have integrity, as Fong explains it’s a boundary of someone in doing business. “I’ve still remembered the early years when I was in Phnom Penh ten years ago, and I was the only Singaporean citizen here – the strange world I’d ever met,” said Fong. “I could convince people here to approve my first supplying project – a big project at the five-star hotel – even if I had nothing in hand. But I didn’t spoil my first project. I completed it and then go on with another.”
People seem to neglect integrity, as they tend to seek the opportunity and then go on for their personal gain rather than building trust among their partners, most often leaving an unpleasant past experience to hundreds of other people.
“Phnom Penh is so small,” said Kuy Vat, Vtrust Group’s CEO and chairman, “and if we lose integrity to people, they will spread it to others and we’ll get hard to move further in business.”
One of the fastest growing companies in Cambodia, Vtrust Group’s revenue grew by US$4.55 million in 2012, as led by Kuy Vat, one of the influential entrepreneurs in Phnom Penh.
Businessman is likely to be either advantageous or vulnerable to what he says to others. If he says something, he has to mean it. And if he breaks it, he’ll have to confront being dishonest.
Calling integrity as ‘having honesty’, Vat said, “You have to keep what you say or promise, or respond to it accordingly, or else people will lose trust in you,” said Vat.
Last of all, to succeed and stay sustainable in business is to create values within the products, as many established entrepreneurs always agree.
“Remember, always create a value in what you’re selling,” said Din Somethearith, executive director at Frangipani Villa Hotel. “If you can add value in your products, people will always come to you. They don’t like you to force them to buy this or that out of their need.”
